NC Minority Support Center proudly Announces
The Support Center To Sponsor Youth Tours During
National Youth Credit Union Week (April 20-26)

The Support Center will sponsor a tour of Latino Community Credit Union and Generations Community Credit Union on April 25, 2008 in celebration of National Youth Credit Union Week.  This is the fourth year the organization has sponsored the tour to promote youth financial education.
Expected to attend are 30 eighth grade students from Rogers Herr Year Round Middle School located in Durham, NC.  The participating students are from a business computer technology class taught by Crysta Hines. “I believe it is important to come back each year to expose my new students to the credit unions to promote healthy money management,” says Hines.  “They always enjoy the tour and have fun learning how to properly invest and spend money while playing the games they provide.” Staff members of Generations and Latino will explain the differences between banks and credit unions, provide an overview of their daily operations and transactions and share with the students the different services that they can access.  The Support Center staff will conclude the day with a round of CASHFLOW for KIDS, a financial board game aimed at making them aware of future expenses and how to make the best possible financial decisions.

The goal of the tour is to demonstrate the unique service community development credit unions (CDCUs) provide to their members and emphasize the importance of becoming financially literate. The Support Center is also working with First Legacy FCU of Charlotte and Greater Kinston CU in Kinston to establish youth education and savings programs.
