Ongoing Technical Assistance
Support Center staff provide ongoing, one-on-one technical assistance to CDCU managers and facilitate quarterly seminars on relevant topics in a small group environment. In the past year, technical assistance staff have helped credit unions to computerize their operations, recruit management, create and establish lending and collections policies, develop marketing strategies, upgrade loan processing software and manage crisis situations.

Capacity Grants Program
The Support Center also offers competitive capacity grants, designed to bolster a credit union’s ability to hire new staff, offer new or improved services, or expand or upgrade computer and software systems. These funds are also available to start-up CDCUs. Annually the Support Center awards up to $600,000 in capacity grants.

Capital Support Loan Fund
This revolving fund provides a major source of capital, ensuring CDCUs have sufficient funds to meet the credit needs of their members. To qualify for these funds, CDCUs must demonstrate financial need and meet strict financial standards and performance goals. The loan fund currently stands at more than $8 million. Since its implementation, the loan fund has allowed CDCUs to create or maintain more than 1,500 jobs in North Carolina’s small businesses and is allowing credit unions to offer mortgages, bringing homeownership to low-wealth residents

Accounting Service Center
Offers tiered levels of accounting assistance contingent upon a CDCU’s need. In some instances, all of the accounting functions are managed, while others are simply reviewed. Currently, seven institutions are registered.

Mortgage Lending Program

"Helping credit unions help their members become homeowners."  The Support Center affords CDCUs the opportunity to offer mortgage loans to their members, giving many low-wealth families the chance to be a part of the American dream.  Technical assistance is also provided through one-on-one mentoring of credit union staff and focused workshops the Support Center provides to help CDCUs implement an affordable mortgage program.
